Five Bearcats earn All-MIAA baseball honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Five members of the Northwest Missouri State University baseball team earned All-MIAA honors from the conference office on Thursday. Pitchers Anthony Caenepeel and Nikko Pablo were named to the third team while Carson Smith, Kevin Handzlik and Ozzie Adams earned honorable mention accolades.

Caenepeel has logged an MIAA high 103.2 innings this season and is third in the conference with 90 strikeouts. He was an All-MIAA honorable mention selection in 2015 as a sophomore. Pablo threw the third third no-hitter in Northwest history against Missouri Western on April 26, 2016. He ranks fourth in the MIAA with a .223 opponent batting average and is eighth conference wide with a 3.53 ERA.

Smith is now Northwest's career leader with 17 saves. He has appeared in 24 games this year, logging 30.1 innings. He has a 2.08 ERA and has struck out 25 batters. Handzlik leads the team with a .345 batting average this season. He had 48 hits, 31 RBIs and has crossed the plate 23 times, appearing in 42 games, making 39 starts. Adams is one of three players to start all 50 games for the Bearcats in 2016. He leads the team with 61 hits and 47 runs scored.

Northwest faces Central Missouri at 4 p.m. on Thursday afternoon in the first round of the MIAA Tournament in St. Charles, Mo. Fans can follow live stats for the tournament HERE.
